Twilight of the oceans
Daniel Léveillé has been the silent storm in a very active and prominent dancer milieu, going against the flow for 30 some years.
Success caught up with him with the production Amour, Acide et Noix, which has garnered increasing international recognition.
George Balanchine once said that it was impossible to choreograph to Beethoven, a declaration that Danielle Léveillé soundly challenges in his new work, Twilight of the Oceans. This work completes the triptych that includes Amour, Acide et Noix and The Modesty of Icebergs.
About Twilight of the Oceans, the press wrote
… the seven dancers attack each move as an animal would attack its prey, completely absorbed in doing so ... A true stroke of genius: Beethoven’s sonatas, absolutely perfect for this essentially non-lyrical piece, add a magical rhythm and vitality. – Le Devoir, Montreal
Léveillé’s work allies people with element forces – rock enduring the tide, tectonic plates shifting. – The Village Voice, New York
